Update: This event is now sold-out, but you can watch it live on www.epfl.ch

Yuval Noah Harari has sold millions of books and notched up just as many views on YouTube. The Israeli historian – known for his thought-provoking and sometimes controversial views – will be taking part in a high-level panel discussion at 5pm on Wednesday, 10 July at the SwissTech Convention Center. The initial batch of 2,200 tickets for the free event, organized in conjunction with the Empowerment Foundation to help mark EPFL’s 50th anniversary, was snapped up just hours after being released. The School has made a further 500 tickets available this morning.

In two of his books, Sapiens and Homo Deus, Harari explores the history of humanity and makes bold predictions about our future. His latest release, 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, looks at some of the most urgent questions on today’s global agenda. Harari will be joined on stage by other leading thinkers and figures: Ken Roth (executive director of Human Rights Watch), Effy Vayena (professor of bioethics at ETH Zurich), Jacques Dubochet (UNIL, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry), Grégoire Courtine (EPFL) and Jocelyne Bloch (CHUV), and Jamie Paik (EPFL).

Those unlucky enough not to get their hands on a ticket can watch the event live at www.epfl.ch.
