On April 6th 2017, the HERUS group organized with its partners in the ENAC faculty a workshop on Urban Gardening and Well-Being. The workshop gathered participants from the whole French speaking part of Switzerland and from very diverse backgrounds.

During the morning session, insightful talks were given by experts in the field of urban gardening:

  • Dr. Joelle Salomon Cavin and Hans Wydler brought a scientific perspective on urban gardening and its impacts on well-being or more generally on urban quality of life.
  • Yves Lachavanne and Thierry Girard explained with the example of Lausanne the commitments a city can take towards the development of urban gardening.
  • Finally, two representatives from two Swiss associations advocating for urban gardening advancement expounded their accomplishments and visions for the future of urban gardening in Switzerland (Claudia Bogenmann for equiterre and Tilla Künzli for Urban Agriculture Basel).

A world café session was organized during the afternoon to exchange on all relevant issues related to urban gardening and human well-being. All participants were enthusiastic and eager to speak, which led to fruitful discussions.

The workshop ended with the visit of the green space and urban garden of the Bourdonnette, followed by a dinner soup around the garden.

For the whole event catering was provided by 3rd-year bachelor students in Environmental Sciences and Engineering associated with the organic caterer Be-Ho!
