Report on LAST studio in the TV program "Schweiz aktuell"

The studio of Prof. Emmanuel Rey was the subject of a report as part of the TV program "Schweiz aktuell" broadcasted on 29th June 2011 on the Swiss German Television SF1. A number of projects imagined by students for the development of the city of Bern were briefly presented on this occasion.

In a perspective of sustainability, the architectural project is brought to play a central part to densify built areas close to public transport and to generate new construction methods. By an iterative approach from urban design to constructive details, the LAST studio aims at analyzing, exploring and experimenting the issues specific to the research of an architectural contribution to the sustainable city.

For the 2010-2011 studio, the site was a part of the city of Bern, the development of which is presently being questioned and which has revealed to be particularly emblematic of complex issues characterizing the reorientation of urban development.

Stretch of trees bordering the city and separated from the Bremgarten forest by the highway, the Waldstadt sector indeed offers a unique strategic potential, of which urbanization could simultaneously create a new sustainable neighborhood and finance the covering of the highway to recreate a strong link between city and forest. By working on this hypothesis, the students explored and suggested various types of urban forms, built complexes, buildings and envelopes for the potential development of this site.
