The USI-Institute of Computational Science and the ETHZ-Research Center for Energy Networks (both WP2 contributors) developed BELTISTOS solver, a multi-period optimal power flow solver for AC power systems with storages.

The Institute of Computational Science at USI and the Research Center for Energy Networks at ETHZ (both SCCER-FURIES- WP2) have developed BELTISTOS solver. This is a structure-exploiting and data-compression multi-period optimal power flow solver for AC power systems with storages such as hydro, batteries or electric vehicles. Compared to standard AC-OPF methods, BELTISTOS dramatically reduces the solution time and memory requirements and handles large problems with thousands of buses, storages and time periods even on standard desktop computers. For 10000 time periods typical speedups of runtime performance over standard AC-OPF methods exceed three orders of magnitude, requiring at the same time about two orders of magnitude less memory. The ongoing collaboration started at the first SCCER-FURIES annual conference 2014 and currently aims toexpand the applications to reserves, security constraints and stochastic problems.
