The FSB Occupational Safety and Health team has won a safety prize from the Société suisse des Spécialistes en Protection-incendie et en Sécurité.

The Occupational Safety and Health Service (SB-SST) team, led by Thierry Meyer, is being recognized for developing a systematic tool for Assessment and Classification of Hazards in Laboratories (ACHiL). The SB-SST team supports the workplace safety for researchers and students of the School of Basic Sciences as well as for those it hosts in its facilities.

ACHiL is an innovative a platform for hazard identification that classifies laboratory hazards through four straightforward categories (no hazard/high hazard). ACHiL’s hazard mapping, also known as ‘hazard portfolio’, is a powerful tool for prioritizing the risk-analysis program: first a focus on ‘‘hot spots’’, secondly on ACHiL high hazard level laboratories, and finally on others. It allows users to define a risk management plan focused on most important issues, and to allocate resources where they are needed most urgently.

The Société suisse des Spécialistes en Protection-incendie et en Sécurité (SPSS) is an independent body dedicated to the safety of people, animals and property. The institution was founded in 1977, and comprises four sections: Swiss Romande, South, Central and East Switzerland. It includes over 600 specialists in all fields of safety.

The award ceremony will be held on November 10th, 2015 at the Sicherheit 2015 conference in Zürich.
